The Council members of the Amboy Belle Isle United Church meet bi-monthly.

It is important to discuss and oversee all areas pertaining to church activities, maintenance, membership growth, individual committee recommendations, financial needs and requests, and any other community needs that arise. Last year we sent financial assistance to two local families that lost their homes through disasters. Success is always achieved as we deliberate God's calling us to manage or support His work on this earth.

With the completion of 2009 activities, we assess the list of services and funding we have provided, supported, worked at, and achieved, such as continued can tabs collected for Shriners (over 75 pounds) as they fund a variety of hospital treatments and equipment for those in need, along with daily service to our fellowman! We must ALWAYS be aware of the needs of those closest to us as we follow God's message to "share the Good News" of Jesus Christ.

How great is God's grace to provide so many hands to do His work through all the members of this loving, caring and constantly giving congregation.

The Council President is the Council's presiding officer. I set the Council agenda and conduct all Council meetings. I also conduct the church's annual meeting which is hel in January.

I hold the position of lay member of the Methodist Annual Conference which will change in July, 2010, to the North Central New York Annual Conference. Amboy Belle Isle will then become a part of a new, un-named, conference for the Upper New York area of the United Methodist Church. Being a united church, we are also listed among the churches of the Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery.

I have lived in this area all my life. One of my ancestors, Jabin Armstrong, was among the first settlers to Belle Isle. He donated the land on which the Belle Isle Methodist Church building was constructed . I became a member of the Belle Ise Methodist Church when I was 13. I served as its lay member of the Annual Conference for many years prior to the establishment of the united church. I was a founding member of the united church.

When I was a little girl (91 years ago), my father brought us to the Amboy Presbyterian Church on a sleigh from South Belle Isle across the land which later became the Airport. I was baptized in the church later in life when we moved to Airport Road. I remember, since I was older than the children today. I enjoyed the church work since Alice and Helen Strickland made sure we kept busy with Sunday School and projects.

Being the Council Treasurer can be complicated when trying to list all the various mission donations given out each year by our widespread ministry of caring. The congregation of Amboy Belle Isle United Church has seriously addressed the needs brought before them for many decades. No request is ignored. As we share our gifts, whether financial or time, we try to face life as though Christ was the one knocking on our door for assistance.

Being the new kid on the block of officers, I am still getting my feet wet in learning and processing the many areas of financial record-keeping and reporting. But this is not difficult since we all work together for the Lord's work.

What an honor it has been to draw even closer to God as we share the financial burden of not only the church building, but of the missions laid upon our hearts.

Two years behind us with our website addition to our ministry. Time flies!

Thank you for visiting our internet connection in an effort to keep you informed of our many activities.

I hope you find God's presence here. Listening and trying to follow God's path for each of our lives is a constant challenge, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will succeed.

As Council Secretary, I find daily challenges in trying to meet the needs of others, not only in a secretarial area, but in the daily interruptions and nudges that God continues to place in my life to open my eyes to the blessings and miracles around us, sometimes letting us see our role in some of them.

I pray I have lifted up others as much as I have been lifted up by you and many daily prayer warriors over the years. We are not alone in our struggles. Raise your hands and lift your eyes to the Lord and let Him wrap His loving arms around you.

The teamwork of all the members of the Trustee Committee has kept me busy and challenged over the years. The contractors and workers that bring the repairs and maintenance in line are greatly appreciated in their immediate responses to our needs.

Joy Priano, Sunday School Director

Teaching the children is a great responsibility that is very rewarding. All of the teachers take part in building a curriculum that helps the children learn while having fun.

Current Sunday School teachers are involved in continued education, working toward their certification.
